Food & Drink in CDMX

Mexico City is known for amazing food, gorgeous restaurants with exceptional service and delicious craft cocktails. We have put together a guide of places we love as well as places we have not been but are on our list. Thank you to friends who helped us put this guide together!

Restaurants (Lunch/Dinner)

Maximo - Farm-to-table, French/Mexican cuisine in Roma. If you make one reservation in CDMX, let it be here. Alec and I went after a vendor tasting and are still talking about how upset we are that we were not able to order more food. The fried chicken is incredible. I loved the onion dip. Maximo is our first stop next trip.

Contramar - Seafood in Roma. We went our first night in CDMX and loved it. Great for sharing, we recommend going with a larger group so you can order more dishes. Can also make a chill, light lunch. The picture above is the famous green and red grilled snapper.

Entremar - Can’t get in to Contramar? Try its sister restaurant.

Pujol - Mexican cuisine in Polanco. In 2022, Pujol ranked number 5 on the list of the World’s Best Restaurants. Pujol offers a tasting menu and an Omakase-style dinner. The tasting menu is around $~128 per person. Make a reservation as far in advanced as possible.

Quintonil - Upscale Mexican in Polanco. Quintonil and Pujol have a lot in common. Not only are they both in Polanco, but the chef at Quintonil also worked at Pujol, and Pujol’s most famous dish (the mole madre that’s been cooking since 2013) was initially made to celebrate the one-year anniversary of Quintonil. Quintonil serves one of the best moles and the menu has a similar focus to Pujol’s on local ingredients and beautiful presentations. They offer a rotating tasting menu or you can order a la carte.

Meroma - Mexican in Roma. "Meroma is one of Mexico City’s best new restaurants, where you can eat everything from heirloom tomatoes with grilled avocado and scallop tiradito to agnolotti in sage butter and arroz negro with seafood. There’s a minimalist bar room on the ground floor, which feels right for a casual, cool meal, a more secluded dining room on the second floor ideal for dates, and the covered terrace - which is one of the best spots for a group dinner in Mexico City. When you add in the long cocktail menu and wine list, you have a restaurant where literally anyone would be happy." Via Infatuation.

Rosetta - Mexican/Italian in Roma. Beautiful restaurant inside a townhouse. Prefect for lunch or a romantic dinner.

Masala y Maiz - Mexican fusion in Condesa. Masala y Maiz explores the migration of people, culinary techniques, ingredients, cultural food ways and political movements between South Asia, East Africa & Mexico.

San Angel Inn - Mexican in San Angel. Exactly what you picture when you think of a historical hacienda.

Taqueria Orinoco - The best tacos in CDMX. Locations in Roma, Condesa and Polanco.

Restaurants (Breakfast/Lunch/Dessert/Coffee)

Lalo! - Breakfast or lunch in Roma. The chef behind Maximo takes on breakfast/lunch.

Lardo - Grab breakfast at Lardo in Condesa then go for a walk in Chapultepec Park.

Cafe NiN - Breakfast or lunch in Juarez.

Panaderia Rosetta - Famous bakery in Roma with a second location in Juarez. Try their guava pastry.

Churrería El Moro - Churros and eight different types of hot chocolate. Open 24 hours. Locations all over the city.

Helados Cometa - French-style ice cream with Mexican ingredients.

Cicatriz - Trendy coffee shop in Juarez that turns into a bar at night.

Forte - Coffee shop with multiple locations.

Bars & Rooftops

Hanky Panky - A speakeasy bar.

Terraza Cha Cha Cha - Mexican on a rooftop. Go for a meal or just a drink and to enjoy the view.

Licorería Limantour - Consistently rated in The World's 50 Best Bars. There are two locations, one in Polanco and the other in Roma.

La Clandestina - A speakeasy in Condesa specializing in Mezcal.
